Heterosis is the gateway to a profitable cowherd.

The benefits of crossing Hereford genetics with an angus based herd, have long been proven to increase profitability in growth factors and vigor across the board. Some of the most notable advantages are displayed in the increased fertility and longevity of the baldy female.

Fertility, Longevity, and Docility

The mission at Hitt Mountain Herefords, is to create efficient cattle for the Western stockman. Our cattle will produce consistent and profitable offspring each year, providing ample Hybrid Vigor and Heterosis to benefit any commercial operation. Docile, fertile, and highly maternal females are the foundation of our program.

Our herd is comprised of only the most proven genetics in the ABHA, in addition to several of the best Hereford bulls in the AHA. We are very selective of our herd sires, ensuring that the pedigree of our cattle have a history of success in the mountains and high desert country of the Western United States. The program puts emphasis on high percentage, purebred black Herefords that will pass on maximum heterosis, black hide and pigment to their offspring.

We strive to create moderate framed cattle that hold up well in tough terrain and environments, travel well for feed, and possess a good structure and the genetic backing of proven western bloodlines.
